Selangor FC And Teach For Malaysia Partnership To Support Soccer Schools Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 Julai 2021 -  Selangor Football Club (Selangor FC) and Teach For Malaysia (TFM) are proud to officially announce their partnership, in which TFM will become the official Selangor FC Soccer Schools Programme Education Partner. This pilot programme aims to train football coaches so that they can effectively develop student leaders through coaching, and thus enhance student achievement, engagement and well-being.

The newly launched initiative will involve 30 football coaches as participants. Throughout the programme, TFM will be working closely with Selangor FC to train the coaches in how to become effective facilitators of student leadership, as well as to measure the impact of the programme through collecting and analysing feedback from the coaches and students to evaluate and improve the programme.

Teach For Malaysia’s CEO, Chan Soon Seng said, “We are excited to collaborate with Selangor FC as they increase their reach across schools in Selangor and facilitate learning beyond the classroom. We are also very glad that Selangor FC and Teach For Malaysia share the same vision of empowering children to be leaders, both of their own futures and the future of Malaysia. We believe that the work of creating safe spaces for our children to develop their leadership, elevating their voices, listening to them, and working together with them is incredibly important in order to drive sustainable and meaningful change within our communities.”

Dr.Johan Kamal Hamidon, the CEO of Selangor FC said, “Football is the number one sport in Malaysia and it attracts the attention of many children from a young age (tender age). Therefore, we believe that we have a bigger responsibility to also develop and provide the children with more holistic soft skills and values that can be useful for their future. Even though we are knowledgeable in football, the partnership with TFM who are experts in the field of education will help us in transferring the football knowledge, leadership, and soft skills components to young children more effectively.”
